“Elevate” was a multi-phase refresh of the Soda Springs Public Library’s upper floor, focused on improving comfort, functionality, and expanding the library’s offerings.
The refresh was completed in four thoughtful phases that improved and modernized the space while preserving the library’s rustic, mountain-inspired character. The goal was to ensure the upper floor better serves all patrons, including students, families, and community groups for years to come.
Phase 1: Updated Furniture
Phase 1 focused on replacing the well-loved lounge furniture in the upstairs area. The former residential grade leather couches were replaced with high-quality, cohesive seating that better reflects the library’s mountain-rustic identity while improving comfort and durability.
This phase immediately improved aesthetics and patron experience without altering the structure of the space. It creates a warmer, more inviting lounge environment for reading, gathering, and informal programming while setting the tone for the larger refresh project.

Phase 2: Study Room
Phase 2 addressed one of the most frequently requested patron needs: a quiet, private meeting or testing space. This phase involved constructing a fully enclosed study room in the southeast corner, complete with framed walls, insulation, drywall, additional electrical outlets, window, and updated, flexible furniture/seating.
The room would include its own temperature and lighting controls. This phase significantly increased functionality by providing a dedicated space for online testing, small meetings, tutoring, and private study—needs that were previously underserved.
Phase 3: Replaced Windows & Added Shelving
Phase 3 improved both energy efficiency and storage capacity. This phase included replacing the existing rectangular east wall windows with sliders and removing lower windows to allow for added insulation and expanded shelving. This created additional shelf space for the growing Young Adult collections while improving temperature control.
Huge thanks to the City of Soda Springs for contributing $10,000 towards the project, allowing us to complete Phase 3 ahead of schedule!
Phase 4: Replaced Blinds & Flex Space
The outdated blinds (both in the front and back of the building) were be replaced with alternative window coverings. This helps regulate light, improve energy efficiency, and modernize the appearance of the space.
Additionally, a built-in desk area (and added electrical outlets!) were added to the top of the stairs, in the dead space next to the new study room. Additional shelving was built - making a designated space for all of the library’s “non-book” offerings including kits, fondue pot, cotton candy machine, puzzles, STEM activities, and more.
