“Elevate” is a multi-phase refresh of the Soda Springs Public Library’s upper floor, focused on improving comfort, functionality, and expanding the library’s offerings.

The refresh will be completed in four thoughtful phases that will improve and modernize the space while preserving the library’s rustic, mountain-inspired character. The goal is to ensure the upper floor better serves all patrons, including students, families, and community groups for years to come.

Phase 1: Update Furniture

Status: In progress

Phase 1 focuses on replacing the well-loved lounge furniture in the upstairs area. The current residential grade leather couches will be replaced with high-quality, cohesive seating that better reflects the library’s mountain-rustic identity while improving comfort and durability.

This phase immediately improves aesthetics and patron experience without altering the structure of the space. It creates a warmer, more inviting lounge environment for reading, gathering, and informal programming while setting the tone for the larger refresh project.

Phase 2: Construct Study Room

Status: In progress

Phase 2 addresses one of the most frequently requested patron needs: a quiet, private meeting or testing space. This phase involves constructing a fully enclosed study room in the southeast corner, complete with framed walls, insulation, drywall, additional electrical outlets, window, television, and updated, flexible furniture/seating.

The room would include its own temperature and lighting controls. This phase significantly increases functionality by providing a dedicated space for online testing, small meetings, tutoring, and private study—needs that are currently underserved.

Phase 3: Replace Windows & Add Shelving

Status: Coming Soon

Phase 3 improves both energy efficiency and storage capacity. This phase includes replacing the existing rectangular east wall windows with sliders and removing lower windows to allow for added insulation and expanded shelving. This creates additional shelf space for growing Young Adult collections while improving temperature control.

This phase may also include adding electrical outlets and possibly updated mantle features. By addressing insulation concerns and maximizing wall usage, this stage enhances both practicality and long-term sustainability of the upper floor.

Phase 4: Replace Blinds & Study Tables

Status: Coming Soon

The final phase focuses on lighting control and flexibility. The outdated blinds (both in the front and back of the building) will be replaced with alternative window coverings—possibly remote-controlled options for larger windows and window clings for smaller ones. This helps regulate light, improve energy efficiency, and modernize the appearance of the space.

Additionally, remaining tables and chairs would be replaced with more functional, flexible furnishings. This final step ensures the refreshed space is adaptable, cohesive, and fully aligned with patron needs.
